MLK Day 2011
To all friends, no matter your color, religion or general beliefs, please consider taking a second out of your day, to picture a nation that exists with segregation, rioting and constant tension. After that moment has been taken, look outside your window, turn on the television, or even turn on the radio... Simple things we get to enjoy whenever/wherever we wish, like going to see a movie, or sitting at the bar to have a drink, there were people of color who fended off German Shepherds and dodged fire hoses, just for a chance to get to a theater or restaurant, only to be turned away.. Many pleasures in life we take for granted, I am in that fold as well.. But today, let's just take a second, a minute, out of our 24 hour day, to imagine a world where you can't go to a certain shopping mall, or stay in your desired hotel, simply because of your skin tone.. Not such a great place to exist in huh?
To all of our elders who have lived that struggle, who have fought for equality, for our Caucasian friends who marched alongside Dr. King, who took the chance of being ostracized by their peers, I respect you all..
Celebrate Dr. King's life today, remember his vision everyday..
**Something to smile about below, if that was too heavy, few lines from Coming To America**
Mr. Clarence - "You know sweets? I met Doctah Martin Lutha Kang in 1962 in Memphis Tennessee! I was walking down the street right? Man walk up and hit me in da chest right?? I fall on the ground right?? I look and I said Doctah Kang!!! He said, OOPS, I thought you was somebody else.."
:) Hope you all enjoyed the read, Happy MLK Day..
